Jonathan Echols, who is serving a sentence in the state prison on an earlier conviction, was in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday where he pled guilty to stealing and forging checks on another person’s account.

He was given four years probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the 32-year-old Echols forged and passed a check on the victim’s account in late December last year. The check was made to Echols, and the note on the check indicated it was written for “labor and expenses.”

The victim told police he was unsure how Echols had made a number of computer searches in early January looking for programs, including those for printing checks and producing card scanners.

Echols is currently an inmate in the Ouachita River Unit of the state prison system at Malvern.
