A Mountain Home man, who angrily confronted police officers seeking to serve a felony warrant on his daughter, entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

The incident happened in late August when officers went to the residence of the woman’s father, 72-year-old Lowell Williams.

According to the probable cause affidavit, police were seeking 40-year-old Carriell Williams to serve a warrant on her. She had been charged with various drug-related offenses, including delivery of methamphetamine. The charges stemmed from an alleged drug buy set up between Carriell Williams and a confidential informant in mid-June.

At one point during the confrontation, the officers’ car was blocked in by a vehicle driven by Lowell Williams. The father told officers he did not know where his daughter was. The father was reported to have become more and more loud and aggressive as the encounter played out, demanding officers leave his property.

Lowell Williams branded the drug charges against his daughter false and demanded to see the warrant for her arrest.

He is reported to have begun cursing officers and swinging his arms. Lowell Williams was reported to have challenged the officers to take off their badges and guns and fight. When he approached one of the officers attempting to take him into custody, the officer struck him in the right side of the jaw area with an open hand in self-defense.

The daughter was eventually found hiding in the front passenger floor of the vehicle in which her father had arrived.

Lowell Williams, who is free on $5,000 bond, faces a number of charges, including hindering apprehension, resisting arrest and third-degree assault.
