One of two people arrested in Marion County in April following a traffic stop after an Arkansas State Police trooper observed them switching places in the vehicle was back in circuit court last week.

Twenty-nine-year-old Timothy Goodman of Yellville, as part of a negotiated plea to charges of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, was sentenced to six years supervised probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Goodman and 37-year-old Amanda Strouse were arrested after three people were observed entering a grocery in Summit. A male was driving the vehicle when it stopped at the business. When the three exited the store a short time later, a second male got behind the wheel.

The trooper followed the vehicle as it traveled south on State Highway 14 and observed a malfunctioning tail light. After initiating a traffic stop, the trooper asked the two men why they had switched positions in the vehicle upon exiting the store. The passenger advised the two had been tired and needed to switch. Goodman was the driver of the vehicle and had a suspended driver’s license, as did his passenger who had originally been behind the wheel. Strouse, a passenger in the backseat, was wanted on a warrant from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. An address for Strouse were not provided on the affidavit.

When asked if there were illegal items in the vehicle, Goodman told the trooper there was some “dope” in the driver’s side sun visor and a syringe in the center console. A substance believed to be methamphetamine was found in a pink candy wrapper in a clear plastic bag in the sun visor.
