With the midterm general election drawing nearer, Baxter County’s Farm Bureau gave local constituents an opportunity to hear from some of the candidates on the November ballot. Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge were among the speakers at the Meet the Candidates forum broadcast live on KTLO-FM Tuesday evening from the Baxter County Fairgrounds.
Prior to the forum, Governor Hutchinson spoke with KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot’s Bob Knight and spoke of the accomplishments the state has had since he took office.

As someone who grew up on a farm and was in 4-H, Hutchinson says he understands the importance of agriculture in Arkansas. He adds the tariffs on soybeans imposed by President Donald Trump are starting to have a negative effect.

Hutchinson says he has a list of priorities for the next legislative session if elected, and among those is a proposed increase in teachers’ salaries.

Knight also spoke to Rutlege prior to the forum and discussed some of the issues her office has taken on.
