LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – The chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court has issued a set of long-term plans for changes to the state’s judicial system.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the plans issued last week by Chief Justice Dan Kemp place greater emphasis on online access, courtroom security and judicial independence from other government branches.
The plans are the product of a year’s work by a 24-member planning committee of judges, court staff members and courtroom lawyers. They call for more resources to provide indigent clients with attorneys, a statewide network of legal resources for libraries and public computer terminals, better training in legal ethics and less reliance on court fees and costs for court budgets.
The plan, however, doesn’t require all counties to adopt electronic filing and use of the CourtConnect web portal.
