MH athletes advance to state tennis semifinals

State tennis tournaments began around Arkansas on Monday, and Mountain Home is off to a good start in the Class 5A State Tournament at Hot Springs Country Club after winning all of their first day matches.
In the girls’ singles bracket, Emily Heide advanced to the semifinals after a pair of straight-set matches. Heide first defeated Sara Leder 6-0 and 6-0, and she later topped Haley Fauber of Hot Springs Lakeside 6-1 and 6-0. Her first opponent on Tuesday will be Olivia Gaston of Greenwood.
Meagan Beck will also represent the Lady Bombers in the girls’ singles semifinals. Beck topped Alex Trudell of Benton 3-6, 7-5 and 6-3 and grabbed a straight-set win over Anna Young of Little Rock Christian with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Beck will next go up against Jenny Payne of Jonesboro
Mountain Home’s Sarah Godfrey and Micaela McLean advanced to the girls’ doubles semifinals. Godfrey and McLean began the tournament by beating Isabella Calhoun and Marion Nutt of Lakeside 3-6, 6-4 and 6-1, and they later defeated Ella Beth Wengel and Hannah Frueh of Little Rock Christian in straight sets after posting scores of 7-5 and 6-1. Godfrey and McLean’s next matchup will be with Cameron Heifner and Clara Parker of Jonesboro.
The Bombers will be represented in the boys’ doubles semifinals by Anakin Osgood and Sam Arp. The Mountain Home duo began by topping Christopher Tarkington and Randy Smith of Beebe 0-6, 6-4 and 6-3, and they later got past Mason Hart and Dawson Ramsey of Benton in straight sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Osgood and Arp will meet Evan Hurt and Jonathan Barber of Jonesboro.
Tuesday’s action begins at 9 a.m.

Harrison had mixed results in the Class 4A State Tournament at Burns Park in North Little Rock.
Lindsey Ward and Isabel McNutt advanced to the girls’ doubles semifinals after two straight-set wins. Ward and McNutt topped Kylee Overturf and Lynli Lowry of Arkadelphia 6-3 and 6-1 and defeated Maddie Pinkerton and Ashlyn Gibbs of Nashville. Ward and McNutt will meet Piper Greer and Bella Tan of Pulaski Academy on Tuesday.
Camryn Casey and Kylie Anderson also represented the Lady Goblins in doubles action. Casey and Anderson beat Autumn Dyer and Anna Rhodes of Nashville 6-2, 4-6 and 6-3, but they were later eliminated in straight sets after Valley View’s Ashlee Shinaberry and Evelyn Maurras posted scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Harrison’s Claire Doshier picked up two straight-set victories to advance to the girls’ singles semifinals. She beat Sarah Harrod of Hamburg 6-1 and 6-1 and Paige Ellington of Pottsville 6-0 and 6-0. Doshier’s next opponent will be Joiner Love of Pulaski Academy.
Elise Bell of the Lady Goblins was bounced from the first round of the girls’ singles bracket with a straight-set loss. Bell fell to Cydney Rogers of Valley View 6-0 and 6-0.
Donnie Armstrong represented Harrison in the boys’ singles bracket. Armstrong fell to Ian Garcia of De Queen 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3.
