MH’s Heide advances to Overall State Tennis Tournament semifinals

The Overall State Tennis Tournament started Monday at Burns Park in North Little Rock, and one athlete representing Mountain Home won her opening match. Emily Heide began action in the girls’ singles bracket by defeating Valley View’s Cydney Rogers in straight sets 6-1 and 6-4.
Claire Doshier of Harrison won her first match in straight sets after beating Barbara Zomanova of Atkins 6-1 and 6-0. Doshier later fell in straight sets as she was beaten by Mary Houston of Fayetteville 6-2 and 6-3.
Heide will meet Houston in the semifinals Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Harrison also had a pair of athletes in the girls’ doubles bracket. Lindsey Harrison and Isabel McNutt lost to Kammie Provence and Molly Parker of Searcy in straight sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Chris Carico and A.J. VanLear of Bergman began boys’ doubles competition with a straight set win by beating Carlos Sasasola and Maxim Chadwick of Haas Hall-Bentonville 7-6 and 7-6. Carico and VanLear were later eliminated in straight sets as Henry Nolan and Steven Weeks of Little Rock Catholic posted scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
