Elton John, David Crosby, Chaka Khan among nominees for 2018 Hollywood Music in Media Awards

ABC/Randy Holmes; Henry DiltzThe nominees have been announced for the 2018 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, which honor “musical excellence in visual media,” and among the veteran artists who will be competing for trophies are Elton John, David Crosby, Chaka Khan, Patti Smith and Annie Lennox.

Elton and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin received a nod in the Original Song — Animated Film category for “Stronger Than I Ever Was,” a tune they wrote for the movie Sherlock Gnomes that was performed by Mary J. Blige.

Crosby and Lennox both will vie for the Original Song — Independent Film honor. Crosby nod is for “Home Free,” a tune he wrote and performed that’s featured in the film Little Pink House. Lennox’s nomination is for “Requiem for a Private War,” a song that the Eurythmics singer penned and sang that appears in the flick A Private War.

Khan and Smith are in the running for the Original Song — Documentary award. Khan was nominated along with Quincy Jones and others for “Keep Reachin’,” which was featured in the doc Quincy. Patti was acknowledged for “These Are the Words,” a song she co-wrote that was featured in Pope Francis: A Man of His Word.

Quincy, a biographical profile of Jones, also was nominated for the Music Documentary/Special Program prize.

This year’s Hollywood Music in Media Awards will be held November 14 at The Avalon in Los Angeles. A portion of the proceeds raised by the event will go to support music education.
