Holy Smokes’ Wood wins Hillbilly Chili Cook-off

The 23rd edition of the Hillbilly Chili Cook-off had one of its biggest crowds at Bull Shoals-White River State Park. Trieneke Self of the Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club estimates nearly 3,000 people attended Saturday’s event.

Matt Wood of Holy Smokes BBQ won the Judged Homestyle Chili contest and finished second in the People’s Choice Chili division. Wood’s total winnings were $650. Good Samaritan Society Chef Keven Skill took home $250 after finishing second in the Homestyle Chili division, and Serenity, Inc., came away with $100 after ending up third.

Tim Tibbs took the honor of People’s Choice Chili, and he won $200 as a result. Nathan Buck of Warrior Cafe was selected third and took home $100.

Other winners included Connie’s Cafe in Best Judged Salsa, Lakeview Repair in Best Decorated Cook’s Booth and Hannah Karlson in Best Decorated Vendor Booth. All three left with $75.

Tim Hurt also took home $75 after winning the karaoke contest. Chris Dycon was awarded $50 after finishing second, and Debbie Kinler ended up with the third prize of $25.

Rebecca Sanders of Flippin was named the winner of the $1,000 Harps shopping spree. Sanders is one of the newest members of the Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club.
