Entertainment OneAce Frehley has just released a new studio album, Spaceman, the founding KISS guitarist’s third solo effort in four years.

Frehley tells ABC Radio that his “creativity is at a real high,” which he credits to his 12 years of sobriety.

“This album was effortless for me,” says Ace. “I didn’t struggle writing lyrics or…doing guitar solos. They just flowed out of me.”

Meanwhile, Spaceman undoubtedly will excite KISS fans, because it features two tracks that Frehley co-wrote with Gene Simmons, who also named the album and plays bass on one song.

Frehley explains that the collaboration came out of an appearance he made at one of Simmons’ “Vault Experience” events in Los Angeles.

“[W]e had a lot of fun that day,” Ace recalls. “[And] I figured he owes me…because I did that for free.”

Frehley says shortly after the event, he invited Simmons to come work on some music with him at his home studio, and within three or four hours they’d written the songs “Your Wish Is My Command” and “Without You I’m Nothing.”

Ace says working with Simmons was “pretty painless,” while maintaining that Gene is “one of the most underrated bass players.”

Frehely wrote or co-wrote all but one of Spaceman‘s nine songs, a cover of the 1984 Eddie Money hit “I Wanna Go Back.” Frehley says he decided to record that song after watching the video on YouTube and realizing he felt a connection to the tune’s theme of revisiting the past.

Speaking about connecting to the past, Frehley tells ABC Radio that fans have been drawing favorable comparisons between Spaceman and his self-titled 1978 debut album. Ace admits that as a nod to the Ace Frehley album, he put the same number of songs on Spaceman…nine.
