RhinoIn 2014, Joni Mitchell released a four-CD career-spanning box set titled Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, a Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced that she originally compiled for a planned dance production that was to have been put on by Canada’s Alberta Ballet, but was abandoned. Now, a limited-edition, eight-LP vinyl version of the compilation will be released on November 2, five days before Mitchell’s 75th birthday.
Love Has Many Faces features 53 songs from Mitchell’s back catalog that she grouped in four separate thematic sections reflecting different aspects of love, each one intended for a different act of a ballet.
The legend singer/songwriter and painter also designed the package, which includes a book boasting 53 poems, six paintings and text offering insight into the recording of her compositions. The eight LPs feature 12 sides of music, while the second side of four of the discs feature etchings of Joni’s artwork that also represent the end of each of the collection’s four acts.
The acts are titled “Birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll Days,” “The Light Is Hard to Find,” “Love Has Many Faces” and “If You Want Me I’ll Be in the Bar.”
The compilation features mostly deeper cuts from Mitchell’s long career, while some of the better-known songs included are “You Turn Me On I’m a Radio,” “River,” “Court and Spark,” “Blue,” “Carey,” “A Case of You,” “Raised on Robbery” and “Both Sides Now.”
Only 5,000 copies of the collection will be produced, each individually numbered.
