A Marion County man has died after he drowned in the White River at Cotter as he attempted to retrieve fishing equipment. Cotter Police Chief Travis Hopson says 33-year-old Joshua England of Bruno has been identified as the victim.

Hopson says England and two family members were fishing from the bank about 11:00 Thursday night at the Big Spring River Access under the bridge. England went into the river wearing a pair of waders to retrieve some fishing equipment that had fallen into the river, when he went under water and never resurfaced.

Members of the Cotter and Gassville Police Departments, Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Cotter Fire Department, Cotter/Gassville Rural Fire Department, Gassville Fire and Rescue, Arkansas Game and Fish officers and the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department helicopter all assisted in the search for the man.

England’s body was recovered from the river about 2:15 Friday morning about 100 yards from where he went under the water.
