Two sites in Baxter County and one in Fulton County will be among 5,000 U.S. drop-off locations collecting shoebox gifts for children overseas during Operation Christmas Child. National Collection Week is set for Nov. 12th-19th.

This year, residents in the two counties hope to collect almost 15,000 gifts to contribute to the 2018 global goal of reaching 11 million children in need.

During National Collection Week, Baxter and Fulton County families, churches and groups will be busy transforming empty shoeboxes into fun gifts of hope filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items.

The Samaritan’s Purse project partners with local churches across the globe to deliver these tangible expressions of God’s love to children affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine. For many of these children, it will be the first gift they have ever received.

During the month of November, First Baptist Church of Viola will serve as a drop-off location for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child.

Maranda Pingel, drop-off team leader for Fulton County, says for many of these children, their shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. It sends a message that God loves them, and they are not forgotten.
