Meteor suspected to cause flash, explosion

A meteor is suspected to have caused a bright flash and loud boom experienced by area residents. According to Ozark Radio News, officials from the National Weather Service in Springfield say the object streaked across the sky Friday during the early evening before breaking apart.

Several reports about the meteor were received from residents in the areas of Mountain Home, West Plains and Ava. Regional media reports state it was observed as far south as Camp in Fulton County and as far north in Columbia, Missouri.

There are currently no reports of debris reaching the ground.
