Polls remain open across Arkansas until 7:30 Tuesday evening.

Just before 5:00 Tuesday, what had been described as one of the more “manageable” voting sites earlier in the day at the Baxter County Courthouse was reported bustling with activity.

At the same time, there was a report of no waiting at Salesville City Hall for those who may want to cast their vote in that area of the county.

Just before noon, Reese reported at the courthouse, which is open for voting Tuesday, the line of those waiting was manageable. Reese says reports from other locations in the county are the lines are backed up.

Reese says while there have been some machine issues, the backups are also being caused by voters who appear to be reading the lengthy ballot issues, without having prepared by researching this information prior to entering the polling sites.

She said election officials cannot stress enough the value of voters preparing themselves before arriving at the polls.

Sample ballots are available at the courthouse and online at ktlo.com under the Election Central button.

Tuesday morning, some problems are being reported at two vote centers in Baxter County. County and Circuit Clerk Canda Reese says there have been issues with the voting machines at both Wesley United Methodist Church in Cotter and the Baxter County Training Center in Midway. Reese says right now, they are asking voters to go to other vote centers in the county to cast their vote.

Other vote centers are located at the Baxter County Courthouse, Christ Community Church in Twin Lakes Plaza, Eastside Baptist Church, Big Flat City Hall, Henderson Fire Station, Lone Rock Baptist Church, Northeast Lakeside Fire Station, Norfork First Baptist Church and Salesville City Hall.

As far as early turnout, Reese says almost 30 percent of Baxter County’s 29,043 voters registered as of May 31st voted early. While the 30 percent is not a record turnout for early voting, Reese says it is a good turnout for a mid-term election.
