Baxter County votes to retain state-level incumbents, with 1 exception

When totals were made available Wednesday morning at 12:31, Baxter County voters overwhelming had cast their votes in favor of incumbents in state and federal-level races in Tuesday’s General Election, with one exception.In the race for State Senate, District 17, incumbent Republican Scott Flippo received 78 percent of the vote to Libertarian challenger Kevin Vornheder’s 22 percent. District 17 covers parts of Baxter, Marion and Boone counties. Senator Flippo received 80 percent of the vote among the three counties.

It was the race for State Representative for District 61 where Baxter County voters favored Republican challenger Marsh Davis with 74 percent of the vote to incumbent Democrat Scott Baltz with 26 percent. The Arkansas Secretary of State website indicates with 100 percent of the vote reported across the district covering parts of Baxter, Sharp, Randolph and Fulton counties, Davis has defeated Baltz by 118 votes. Davis had 4,768 votes, to Baltz’ 4,650.

In the Supreme Court Associate Justice Position 3 race, incumbent Justice Courtney Goodson captured 53 percent of the vote to challenger David Sterling’s 47 percent.

In the vote for U.S. Congress District 1, incumbent Republican Rick Crawford received 75 percent of the vote over Democrat Chintan Desai’s 22 percent and Libertarian Elvis Presley’s 3 percent.

For Governor, Baxter County voters cast 75 percent of their ballots for incumbent Republican Asa Hutchinson, with 21 percent going to Democrat Jared Henderson and 4 percent to Libertarian Mark West.

Incumbent Republican Lt. Governor Tim Griffin received 73 percent of the vote, with Democrat Anthony Bland taking 23 percent and Libertarian Frank Gilbert 4 percent.

In the race for Attorney General, Republican incumbent Leslie Rutledge captured 73 percent, over Democrat Mike Lee with 23 percent and Libertarian Kerry Hicks with 4 percent.

In the open seat for Secretary of State, Republican John Thurston was the top vote-getter with 72 percent, followed by Democrat Susan Inman with 24 percent and Libertarian Christopher Olson with 4 percent.

In the open seat for Commissioner of Lands, Republican Tommy Land took 71 percent of the vote over Democrat Larry Williams with 24 percent and Libertarian T.J. Campbell with 5 percent.

Incumbent Republican Dennis Milligan easily captured the largest amount of votes locally in the race for State Treasurer with 81 percent of the vote over Libertarian Ashley Ewald’s 19 percent.

Incumbent Republican Andrea Lea also took the top spot in the race for State Auditor handily with 82 percent of the vote to Libertarian David Dimwiddle’s 18 percent.
