Epic Rights/Perryscope Productions/ LibertineAuthentic Hendrix, the merchandising company run by Jimi Hendrix‘s family, has partnered with Los Angeles-based fashion label Libertine for a new luxury apparel line inspired by the late guitar legend.

To launch the clothing collection, and in celebration of the just-released 50th anniversary deluxe reissue of The Jimi Hendrix Experience‘s Electric Ladyland album, Libertine co-founder Johnson Hartig has designed a limited-edition unisex shirt featuring the photo that appears on the cover of the reissue.

The shirt will be unveiled tonight at an event held at the Fred Segal clothing store in West Hollywood, California, and will be sold for a limited time at Fred Segal locations.

The photo, which features Hendrix and his band mates surrounded by children, was the image Jimi had intended to appear on the original Electric Ladyland cover. The pic was taken in 1968 by Linda Eastman, Paul McCartney‘s future wife.

The partnership between Authentic Hendrix and Libertine will include a luxury men’s and women’s apparel capsule collection designed by Hartig that will debut in the spring of 2019. Hendrix’s colorful and flamboyant style will serve as inspiration for the clothing items.

“Jimi’s style was part of his persona. Although it was deliberate and not accidental, he didn’t even have to try to be spectacular. He just was,” says Jimi’s half-sister Janie Hendrix, president/CEO of Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix. “Johnson Hartig’s fashion sense mirrors Jimi’s flair…His designs are colorful, bold and electrifying.”

Adds Hartig, “I am thrilled to be entrusted with interpreting his style and artistry as we celebrate the man, musician and artist who has continued to inspire each and every generation of the past 50 years.”
