Local teams have mixed results in Arvest quarterfinals

A few area high school basketball teams took part in the quarterfinals of the Arvest Bank Tournament Tuesday at Flippin.
Norfork’s girls advanced to Thursday’s semifinals following a battle between Lady Panthers. Norfork defeated Yellville-Summit 84-16.
Cotter was sent to the girls’ consolation bracket. The Lady Warriors fell to Melbourne 79-21.
Flippin will also be going to the consolation bracket. The host Lady Bobcats lost to Jasper 60-36.
Lead Hill’s girls did not fare any better on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers ended up falling to Alpena 65-33.
On the boys’ side, Norfork will head to the consolation bracket. The Panthers were toppled by Jonesboro Westside 77-42.
Yellville-Summit will move on to Thursday’s semifinals. The Panthers were able to beat Jasper 63-56.

Elsewhere, Mammoth Spring’s high school teams went to Monette and split with Buffalo Island Central.
The girls’ game ended with the Lady Bears defeating the Lady Mustangs 52-38. Megyn was Mammoth Spring’s top scorer with 15 points, Lauren Mitchell had 14, and Stephine Henry added ten. The Lady Bears improve to 5-1 on the season.
It was a different result in the boys’ contest as Mammoth Spring lost to BIC 55-49. Alex Mero led the Bears with 14 points, Zach Flynn finished with 13, and Devon Cray chipped in 11. Mammoth Spring’s record drops to 1-6.
Both Bear teams will travel to Maynard on Friday.

Mountain Home came away with two wins as they hosted Cave City for three junior high boys’ games.
The freshmen contest was the only loss for Mountain Home as they were edged out by the Junior Cavemen 44-42. The Junior Bombers were led by Dodge Harris with 15 points.
Mountain Home’s eighth graders invoked the mercy rule as they routed Cave City 55-15. Masen Walker was the Eighth Grade Bombers’ leading scorer with 17 points. Mountain Home’s next game will be Monday at Harrison.
The evening began with the seventh grade game. Mountain Home squeaked by Cave City 21-20.
