Customers of Suddenlink’s telephone service in Mountain Home may start to see an increase in their bills. During Thursday’s session, the Mountain Home City Council unanimously passed an ordinance increasing the franchise rate on the phone portion for Suddenlink customers to 4.25 percent.

A week earlier, it was brought to the attention of the city’s administrative committee by treasurer Rita Murray there was previously no franchise fee on phones for Suddenlink customers. The franchise fee for Suddenlink cable stands at 4 percent.

Mountain Home City Clerk Brian Plumlee says he believes the ordinance was passed in order for Suddenlink to be more in line with the franchise rate on phone customers of Centurylink. He says it could have a significant effect on Suddenlink’s phone customers if the cost gets pushed off to them.
