Update: MH man dead after falling from pontoon

A boating accident Friday afternoon on Norfork Lake led to the death of a Mountain Home man. Thirty-eight-year-old Adam Jones was pronounced dead after being transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 4:16 of an unmanned pontoon circling the lake near Cranfield Marina. A deputy responded and observed the boat circling the water nearly a quarter mile southwest of the launch area. Occupants of another boat in the area stopped to provide assistance, and it was reported a male and female were on the shore. The male was reported as seriously injured and unresponsive.

BRMC Ambulance personnel were transported by boat to the shoreline to attend to the to the unresponsive male. He was transported to the emergency room and declared dead around 5:30. The male was identified as Jones.

The investigation indicated Jones was on the front of the pontoon and fell overboard while it was underway. The boat ran over Jones, and he was hit by the propeller. The female had been operating the boat, and she also fell overboard while trying to assist Jones.

The sheriff’s office and ambulance personnel were assisted by the Arkansas State Police, the Northeast Lakeside Fire Protection District, the 101 Gamaliel Area Fire Department.
