Fulton County Sheriff Al Roork and other law enforcement officers and community leaders are preparing for the second annual Shop with a Cop program. The Shop with a Cop program is an event pairing children with local law enforcement officers to shop for gifts for themselves and family members. These children may not have a Christmas or have never got to shop for gifts. Children will be transported by the officers to the Ash Flat Wal-Mart for a shopping spree on the first or second Saturday in December.

The Fulton County program was initiated in 2016 after Sheriff Roork met with Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts and John Kunkel of First Community Bank who offered their help in starting the program in Fulton County.

The goal is to involve 40 to 50 children and to have funds for $100 per child. Sheriff Roork will meet with DHS officials to identify children for the program.

The Saddle Baptist Church started a monthly ongoing donation to the fund for the program. Community organizations and individuals are encouraged to donate funds for this year’s shopping event.

Businesses, organizations and individuals who want to make a donation may bring it to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office or the Fulton County Fair Office. Donations may also be mailed to Shop with a Cop, Post Office Box 910, Salem, AR 72576.

For more information on the program, contact the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office or call the Fulton County Fair Office at 870-895-5565.
