David Sutterfield of Mountain Home entered a guilty plea to possessing methamphetamine and was sentenced to four years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

The 42-year-old Sutterfield was arrested in late July when a Mountain Home police officer responded to a report of a “suspicious male” behind a building. The officer reported in the probable cause affidavit filed in the case he encountered two males after arriving at the location. One of the men said he was trying to get his truck fixed so he could move it from the area behind the building.

The officer said he saw Sutterfield and asked him what he had in his left front pocket. The officer said he made the request because he could see a bulge in the pocket. The officer said Sutterfield removed a red plastic container. He told the officer he had picked it up while “poking around the truck.” The officer said he saw two small plastic bags containing a white crystal substance field-testing positive for methamphetamine in the container.

At the time, Sutterfield had an active search waiver on file since he was on probation from another drug-related charge. In the earlier case, he had been sentenced to six years probation in December 2016.

Sutterfield was in court last week, but he hesitated about accepting the plea agreement. His attorney told Circuit Judge Gordon Webb that he had been able to work with prosecutors and arrive at an agreement Sutterfield would accept.
