Courtesy BillboardKacey Musgraves is one of several women who’ll be honored at Billboard‘s 13th annual Women in Music event in New York City. The CMA Album of the Year winner will be recognized with the publication’s Innovator Award next month.
According to Billboard, the Innovator Award recognizes a female artist who “challenges musical convention, creates positive change and contributes new ideas both within and outside of her creative work.”
Ross Scarano, Billboard’s VP of content, described Kacey as an “iconoclast” who is “creating necessary space for more personal, authentic expression,” thanks to music that “makes for provocative, perspective-shifting work that is challenging traditional notions of songwriting country.”
Kacey will be recognized alongside Billboard‘s Woman of the Year, Ariana Grande, as well as ’80s icon Cyndi Lauper, R&B singers Janelle Monae and SZA [sizzah], and singer-songwriter, actress, dancer, and director Hayley Kiyoko.
The Billboard Woman in Music gala will be held December 6 in New York City, and the red carpet pre-show will stream live on Twitter from 7 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET.
