HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) – Prosecutors in Arkansas plan to seek the death penalty for a Hot Springs woman charged in the stabbing deaths of her mother and her daughter.
The Sentinel-Record first reported the court documents showing Garland County prosecutors will ask for the death penalty for 46-year-old Melissa Ann Galey if she is convicted on capital murder charges in the case.
Galey has pleaded not guilty to the two murder charges and a count of arson in the deaths of 71-year-old Wanda Self and 8-year-old Megan Galey.
Police say the victims were found stabbed to death last Wednesday at Self’s home in Hot Springs and that an effort had been made to burn the home.
Jail records show Galey remains in custody without bond and a gag order has been issued to prohibit attorneys from discussing the case.
