There was basketball Thursday as the Western Grove Tournament held its semifinal round. In girls’ action, Rural Special beat Eureka Springs 64-46, and the host Lady Warriors fell to Jasper 47-31. On the boys’ side, Western Grove defeated Jasper 64-45, and Deer topped Eureka Springs 62-51. The championship and third place games will be played Saturday.
A pair of girls’ basketball teams from Ozark County squared off Thursday. Bakersfield was edged out by Gainesville by a final of 41-38.
Salem’s high school teams were swept by Marmaduke in a battle between Greyhounds. Salem’s boys lost a close game with Marmaduke posting the 51-49 decision. Salem also fell in the girls’ contest 71-33.
Mountain Home’s freshmen squads had a rough outing at home as they were swept by West Memphis Wonder.
The Junior Bombers lost the boys’ game to the Lions 43-35. Mountain Home falls to 3-9 on the season, and they’ll play Saturday in Cave City Tournament against the host Junior Cavemen.
The Junior Lady Bombers began the evening by falling to Wonder 39-21. Mountain Home drops to 7-5 on the year, and they’ll play at Cave City Saturday against Highland.
