Basketball makes up much of the local Saturday schedule.
The Billy Ply Classic will be held at Flippin. In girls’ action, the host Lady Bobcats tip off at 10 a.m. against Kingston, Norfork meets Melbourne at 12:30, Thayer faces Jonesboro at 3:00, and Bergman takes on Jonesboro’s junior varsity squad at 4:15. On the boys’ side, Flippin plays Crowley’s Ridge Academy at 11:15, and Melbourne will be paired with Thayer at 1:45.
Viola is set to host the Marvin Newton Classic. In the boys’ games, Cotter and Mammoth Spring will get underway at 10:00, Dora meets Izard County at 12:30, Dora’s j.v. team faces Shirley at 3:00, and Viola takes on Guy-Perkins at 4:15. On the girls’ side, Cotter plays Izard County at 11:15, Mammoth Spring will be matched up with Shirley at 1:45, Viola meets Guy-Perkins at 5:30, and Mountain View faces Alpena at 6:45.
The fourth-annual North Arkansas College Border War Shootout will be held at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison in which each game will pair an Arkansas team with a Missouri team. Omaha’s get started at 10:30 against Bradleyville. The remainder of the schedule includes six boys’ games as Alpena takes on Bradleyville at noon, St. Joe plays Greenfield at 1:30, Bentonville West goes up against Nixa at 3:00, Valley Springs meets Strafford at 4:30, Berryville faces Reeds Spring at 6:00, and Harrison takes on Ozark at 7:30.
The Western Grove Tournament will come to an end. In the third place games, the host Lady Warriors tip off at 3:00 against Eureka Springs, and Jasper’s boys play Eureka Springs at 4:30. The championship games will follow as the Rural Special girls meet Jasper at 6:00, and Western Grove’s boys face Deer at 7:30.
Both of Mountain Home’s freshmen squads will compete in the Cave City Tournament Saturday. The Junior Bomber boys will take the court at 2:15 against the host Junior Cavemen, and Mountain Home’s girls take on Highland at 3:30.
