Baxter County deputy released from hospital after injured by alleged drunk driver

A Baxter County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been released from the hospital after a late night car crash on Friday. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 23-year-old Jacob Zappa was struck by an alleged drunk driver.

According to Sheriff Montgomery’s Facebook post, Deputy Zappa was conducting a traffic stop. He was reportedly sitting in his patrol car when it was struck by the driver. Deputy Zappa was transported to the emergency room at Baxter Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The unidentified driver was arrested and booked into the Baxter County Detention Center. The Arkansas State Police are investigating the accident and will release details at a later time.
