The Calico Rock junior quiz bowl team has advanced to the 1A state tournament later this month. The team advanced to the state level by taking second place at the North Central/Northeast Regional Tournament earlier this month in competition at at Izard County Consolidated High School.
After dropping a closely contested first match of the day, the pirates reeled off five consecutive wins, finishing second among the six teams who competed. Other high schools who participated in the regional included Concord, ICC, Mammoth Spring, Norfork, Ridgefield Christian Academy in Jonesboro and Viola.
Calico Rock will travel to UACCM at Morrilton on Feb. 23rd to compete in the 1A State Tournament.
Zane Fountain was one of five players at the regional named to the all-tournament team and will be eligible to compete at the state all-star competition to be held on March 2nd.
