Cotter girls among area teams winning district title

Several area basketball teams were in district tournament play Friday as a few champions were crowned.

The 2A-1 District Tournament came to an end at the Yellville-Summit Multi-Purpose Facility.
Cotter’s girls were crowned as district champions. The Lady Warriors squeaked by Flippin by a final of 47-45.
Yellville-Summit came up short in the boys’ title game. The host Panthers fell to top-seeded Eureka Springs 32-20.
The Cotter boys ended up in fourth place in the tournament. The Warriors fell to Flippin by a score of 63-59.

The semifinals of the 1A-2 District Tournament were held at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
Norfork’s girls were able to advance to Saturday’s championship game. The top-seeded Lady Panthers beat the host Lady Cougars 56-40.
Norfork’s last opponent in the tournament will be Viola. The Lady Longhorns eliminated Calico Rock with a 48-36 decision.
Viola did not fare as well on the boys’ side as they lost to top-seeded Izard County 94-57. Caleb Faulkner was the Cougars’ top scorer wtih 24 points, Coby Everett had 22, Justus Cooper finished with 19, and Dylan Tharp chipped in ten points. Izard County improves to 34-4 on the year.
Calico Rock will be Izard County’s opponent in for the tournament title. The Pirates bounced Western Grove 54-47.

The Mammoth Spring girls left Armorel as champions of the 1A-3 District Tournament. The Lady Bears edged out top-seeded Maynard 68-67. Terra Godwin paced Mammoth Spring with 28 points, Stephine Henry scored 14, and Lauren Mitchell ended up with 11. The Lady Bears are now 14-15 on the season.

Melbourne’s girls ended the week as the champions of the 2A-3 District Tournament. The Lady Bearkatz breezed past Riverside 47-27 at Buffalo Island Central High School in Monette.
