Report: Cardinals finalizing five-year extension for Paul Goldschmidt

Allen Kee / ESPN Images(ST. LOUIS) — The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly finalizing an extension that will keep Paul Goldschmidt in Missouri through 2024.

A source tells ESPN the five-year extension is for $130 million.

This season marks the final year of Goldschmidt’s current contract. The All-Star first baseman is poised to make $15.5 million this year.

Goldschmidt, 31, joined the Cardinals in December after being traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team with whom he had played for his entire MLB career.

Last season with Arizona, he had a .290 batting average with 33 home runs and 83 RBIs.
