Dan Mullan/Getty Images(PARIS) — Tennis has a new world No. 1.

British men’s singles player Andy Murray earned the spot when Canada’s Milos Raonic pulled out of the Paris Masters before their semi-final because of an injury.

Murray, who holds three Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals, replaces Novak Djokovic as tennis’ top player. He is the first Briton to be world No. 1.

“I never thought I’d be number one in the world,” he told BBC.

“It’s been many years of work to get here. It’s been such a difficult thing to do because of how good the guys around me have been,” he said to BBC.
