(AP) – An endowment that helps fund faculty positions and
student scholarships at the University of Arkansas’ flagship campus in
Fayetteville declined by nearly $50 million in fiscal year 2016.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that UA listed endowment funds at
$898.9 million at the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
That’s $49.8 million lower than the record high of $948.7 million in 2015.
Endowed gifts fell from $21.1 million in 2015 to $9.9 million and investment
losses totals $12.6 million and the decline is the first since 2012, and the
largest since a 2009 during an economic recession.
