A Baxter County man has been arrested for the second time this month on felony drug charges. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 29 year old Ben Gary Dacus was arrested Wednesday on felony charges of possession of drugs and firearms, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dacus is being held in the Baxter County Jail on a $25,000 bond and is set to appear in circuit court Thursday.
The latest arrest of Dacus followed an investigation by a sheriff's deputy into a report of a man slumped over the wheel of a pickup truck on Baxter County Road 625. The driver of the vehicle appeared to be passed out and as the officer approached the truck, he saw a loaded syringe in the right hand of the driver, who identified himself as Ben Gary Dacus and admitted the syringe contained methamphetamine.
A search of Dacus and his vehicle recovered additional drugs and drug paraphernalia, including .4 grams of meth, three hydrocodone pills, numerous syringes, a digital scale and two glass pipes. Also found in the vehicle was a loaded Marlin model 60 .22 caliber pistol.
On September 9, Dacus and 24 year old Kiana Shawtae Hays were arrested at the scene of an accident on the Buford Cutoff. When they arrived at the scene of the accident, a sheriff's deputy recognized them from an August 30th incident under investigation by the Baxter County SHeriff. Dacus was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal trespass and operating an ATV on a public road. Hays was charged with felony possession meth with intent to deliver.
