The latest news from Mountain Home Public Schools Athletic Director Janet Wood.
From the AD 3-10-14
Congratulations to eighth grader Hannah Pheifer for winning the regional Elks Hoop Shoot 12-13 year old division in Paris, TN over the week-end! Hannah will now travel to Springfield, MA to compete for the National Title. To my recollection, we have only had one other athlete to win regionals and that was Briana Leonard in the 8-9 year old division when she was a third grader.
Although their season came to an end in the first round of the state basketball tournament, we are very proud of both basketball teams for competing each and every game through a brutal conference schedule. Coaches Dell and Lindsey Leonard, Mitch Huskey, and Grant Greenhaw guided their respective teams and won more games than anyone expected. Seniors Derek Curtis, Michael Wehmeyer, Jamie Stone, Cole Ford, Hayden Hall, Briana Leonard, Tanya Jones, Amanda Davis, Hannah Gaines, and Jack Baran have given the fans some memorable moments on the floor but more importantly have raised the bar as far as attitude, positive work habits, and sportsmanship is concerned. Thank you seniors – you will be missed. Many of our seniors will jump right into spring sports that are already underway.
The boys' soccer team defeated the Harrison Goblins 1-0 at Harrison. Big win for the Bombers as the Goblins are always very competitive. Both soccer teams will travel to Greenbrier this Thursday.
Both track teams did very well in an invitational meet at Rogers consisting mainly of the 7A West schools. The team of Katie Wehmeyer, Katie Strain, Lindsey Harrison, and Megan Platt took first place in the 4 x 100 relay; Lane Alexander finished fourth overall in the 3200 meter run. Both teams will travel to Harrison this Thursday for the Goblin Invitational. 7th grade track will travel to Harrison this afternoon, junior high will travel to Harrison tomorrow, and we will host a 7th grade meet this Thursday at Bomber Stadium.
Baseball and softball games were all postponed last week due to the weather. Softball will host Salem this afternoon at Keller Park in junior varsity action starting at 4:30.
Ninth grade baseball will travel to Harrison this afternoon; we will host Salem tomorrow in junior varsity action beginning at 4:30 at Cooper Park; 9th grade will host Viola Friday for a double header at Cooper beginning at 4:00; and varsity baseball will travel to Bentonville this Friday.
With the unpredictable weather, postponements, and rescheduling that takes place in spring sports, please listen to KTLO/KCTT for updates or call the athletic office at 870-425-1285 to verify location, game times, etc.
The Bomber Booster Club will meet at 11:30 today at Western Sizzlin. We will be discussing or next major fundraiser which is the upcoming Bass Cat Tournament March 28 and 29. This event requires a lot of man-power (we cook burgers at the lake both Friday and Saturday and we cook burgers at the high school on Friday evening). We are very appreciative of Rick Pierce and Bass Cat for allowing us the opportunity to work this prestigious event. If you are unable to attend the BBC meeting today but would like to volunteer your services for either Friday or Saturday, please call the athletic office and we will sign up you.
