Courtesy of Elvis Presley’s GracelandToday, one day before the 39th anniversary of Elvis Presley‘s death, his famous Memphis mansion, Graceland, announced plans to open a huge, state-of-the-art entertainment complex this spring called Elvis: Past, Present & Future. Among the attractions the facility will feature are museums focusing on the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s career and cars, a permanent exhibit about Sun Records founder Sam Phillips and his legacy, a soundstage for performances, themed restaurants and retail shops.
The 200,000-square-foot complex, which is being built now, will cost $45 million and will be five times bigger than Graceland’s current visitor center.
“Elvis: Past Present & Future will enable our visitors to live a day in the life of Elvis Presley,” says Graceland Holdings executive Joel Weinshanker in a statement. “Whether you’ve been to Graceland multiple times or have yet to make the trip, we know that you will be entertained, educated and inspired like never before, here at the world’s greatest music landmark.”
One of the key attractions of the new complex is expected to be Elvis: The Entertainer, a 20,000-square-foot museum that will celebrate various aspects of Presley’s life and career. It will house hundreds of pieces of memorabilia spanning from Elvis’ childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi, through his emergence as a pop superstar, his service in the U.S. Army, his acting endeavors in Hollywood, his Las Vegas performances and life at Graceland.

As previously reported, the event culminates with an annual candlelight vigil, that begins at 8:30 p.m. CT and will see fans visiting Presley’s until the morning hours of Tuesday, August 16.
