Concord Police Dept.Founding J. Geils Band guitarist John Geils was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the Boston suburb of Concord, Massachusetts, for allegedly driving drunk. Concord police tell ABC News that the 70-year-old musician was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to use care when stopping after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash.

According to police, this is the second time Geils has been charged with driving under the influence. He was arraigned Wednesday at the Concord District Court.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office says Geils was arrested after he allegedly rear-ended a vehicle in front of him. Following the crash, police determined that he appeared intoxicated, reports the Lowell Sun.

According to the paper, at the arraignment hearing, a Concord judge released Geils on his own recognizance and ordered him not to operate a vehicle without a license or to drink any alcohol. The veteran rocker’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 2.

Geils co-founded The J. Geils Band in 1967 and played with the group off and on until 2012. In recent years, he was involved in a dispute with some of his ex-band mates over the use of the group’s name.
