The Stand in Solidarity with Standing Rock concert will take place Sunday, November 27, at Prairie Knights Pavilion in Fort Yates, North Dakota.
“Just as we give thanks for our good fortune and the bounty of our lives as Americans, let us thank the Native people who are gathered here at Standing Rock to protect the natural world and defend our place in it,” says Browne in a statement.
Adds Raitt, “I’m proud to be standing in support of the courageous and dedicated Water Protectors at Standing Rock. This movement is growing by the day with solidarity actions happening around the country, yet the media isn’t covering it nearly enough.”
In addition, Bonnie says she hopes the concert will help bring more attention to the issue and help put pressure on the Obama administration to stop construction on the pipeline, which would cut through the Standing Rock Indian reservation.
Veteran folk musician Joel Rafael and late Native American singer/songwriter John Trudell‘s backing band, Bad Dog, also will be performing at the event. Tickets are on sale now and all proceeds go to the Oceti Sakowin Camp, a group dedicated to peacefully protecting the land and water against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
