MH girls win thriller over West Memphis in conference tourney

The Mountain Home High School girl’s basketball team had a wild finish to their game against West Memphis for third place of the 6A East Conference Tournament at home Saturday afternoon. Brad Haworth has the details.

The Lady Bombers did a great job on the boards against a much taller opponent, hit free throws down the stretch and overcame blowing a nine point fourth quarter lead to beat West Memphis 55-54 in overtime.
Mountain Home had a 45-36 lead late in the game but the Lady Blue Devils clawed their way back and Aryah Hazley hit a three pointer with six seconds left to cap a 13-4 run to close regulation and force overtime. Mountain Home scored the first five points of the extra period and hung on for the one point win.
The Lady Bombers out-rebounded West Memphis 27-18 in the game and 19-8 in the second half despite the fact the Lady Blue Devils had a huge heighth advantage.
After leading rebounder and second leading scorer Vinessa Daniel fouled out, Mountain Home’s Riley Walker stepped up big time with clutch free throws, hitting nine of 13 from the line in the fourth quarter and extra period. Mountain Home was 13 of 17 from the line, all in fourth quarter and overtime.
Hannah Pfiefer led a balanced Mountain Home attack with 14 points, Daniel and Alivia O’Brien each scored 12 and Walker finished with nine points.
West Memhpis, which falls to 16-13, got 15 points from Hazley.
The Mountain Home girls are 18-12 on the season and will open play in the Class 6A State Tournament at Lake Hamilton High School Thursday afternoon at 1:00 against Benton.
