Cher, who was married to Allman from 1975 to 1979 and gave birth to son Elijah Blue Allman, tweeted a photo of her and Allman together as a couple. “I’ve tried…words are impossible,” she wrote. “Forever, chooch.”

ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons said in a statement, “Gregg was, of course, a brilliant and intuitive player with a depth of soul reflected in his works in a truly moving manner. Brother Gregg was generous with his talent, his spirit and, of course, his great voice. We were fortunate enough to have been touched by him and those moments remain treasured encounters.”
Melissa Etheridge posted a photo of her with Allman and Mick Fleetwood back in the day, with Etheridge marveling at a tattoo on Allman’s left forearm. ” He showed me his tattoos… his voice…. his soul,” she wrote. “My southern-rock heart is breaking.”
