Yamaha Entertainment GroupLongtime Eric Clapton touring bassist Nathan East will release his second solo album, Reverence, on January 20. The record includes a cover of the 1977 Earth, Wind & Fire hit “Serpentine Fire” that includes contributions from Clapton, Phil Collins and EWF members Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson.
East began the track back in 1991, with his brother Marcel on vocals, Clapton on guitar and Collins on drums. The original tape of the recording recently was rediscovered and completed, with Nathan enlisting Bailey, White and Johnson to add vocals, bass and percussion, respectively. Reverence also includes a rendition of another 1977 EWF tune, “Love’s Holiday,” with Bailey contributing vocals, plus a cover of the Stevie Wonder classic “Higher Ground” and a version of “Over the Rainbow” featuring piano by Nathan’s 16-year-old son Noah.
In advance of Reverence‘s arrival, East has released two singles from the album, including the song “Feels Like Home” featuring vocals by gospel artist Yolanda Adams.
East has worked with Clapton on and off since the 1980s and also has performed and collaborated with such stars as Collins, Wonder, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Toto, Whitney Houston and Beyonce. In addition, he’s a member of the respected smooth-jazz quartet Fourplay.
