iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) – A new professional football league was announced on Wednesday and is looking to play its first game in summer 2018.
The Pacific Pro Football League is being described as a league for players who graduated from high school, are not in college, and have not been out of high school for three years. This system is designed to help high school graduates make themselves for the NFL.
The four-team league will be based in Southern California and pay its players an average salary of $50,000. It will be an eight game season and will play “under professional football rules, protocols, and style,” according to a statement by the league.
Furthermore, each team, which will consist of 50 players, will have a combination of professional and college coaches. In addition, players will receive paid tuition and books at local community colleges.
This league is looking to become an alternative to college football for high school football players. NCAA rules prohibit players from profiting in any capacity from playing football, a point of controversy among student-athletes. The Pacific Pro Football League looks to compensate the players while giving them access to an education.
According to Bradley Edwards, the league’s chief operating officer, the league is currently seeking sponsors and facilities.
