According to a California Highway Patrol incident report obtained by our partners at ESPN, “A Land Rover was seen speeding on Del Mar Blvd. west of Arroyo Blvd. with mechanical violations. The vehicle was subsequently pulled over and the driver was advised of the reason for the stop. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the investigating officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from inside the vehicle. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle.

“While the investigating officer talked with the driver outside of the vehicle, he continued to detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the driver’s breath and person. The driver was shown and demonstrated a series of field sobriety tests. The driver agreed to the tests and failed to perform them as shown and demonstrated. The driver was arrested.”

The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions has a history of drug and alcohol problems, twice checking into rehab. He was scheduled to appear at a news conference Wednesday promoting an upcoming Golden Boy fight card but was a no-show.

De La Hoya was cited and released after the incident.
