Loud & Proud RecordsTake It on Faith, the new album by RossingtonLynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington‘s side project with his wife, Skynyrd backing vocalist Dale Krantz-Rossington — hits stores on Friday, but you can check out an exclusive stream of the entire record now at Billboard.com. The 12-track collection features a mix of tunes influenced by the blues, Southern rock, country and pop.

The album originally was intended to be a full-on blues record, but Dale tells Billboard that the plan changed as the project came together. “As the different songs came in we just couldn’t pass them up,” she explains. “Some were really fun and silly, some were cookin’ pretty good and some were just sweet, slow songs.”

Gary and Dale first played together in The Rossington Collins Band, which formed in the late ’70s following the tragic plane crash that killed Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Ronnie Van Zant and others. Gary says the decision to make Take It on Faith was prompted by fans telling him over the years that they’d like to hear another project in the vein of The Rossington Collins Band, which was fronted by Dale.

Gary tells Billboard that he and his wife recorded the album a few years ago during some downtime in Skynyrd’s schedule. “We went in and did it and it was just spontaneous, quick,” he notes. “It only took a couple weeks of recording and a few overdubs, and we were done. It was such a fun thing to do.”

As previously reported, Take It on Faith includes a tune titled “Good Side of Good” that ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons co-wrote, and also boasts contributions from blues-rock veteran Delbert McClinton, late Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward, one-time Fleetwood Mac singer Bekka Bramlett, ex-Double Trouble keyboardist Reese Wynans and others.
