London Stereoscopic CompanyA new book featuring 3-D photographs of Queen snapped throughout the band’s long career by guitarist Brian May is scheduled to be published on May 25 in the U.K. The aptly titled Queen in 3-D also features May’s candid recollections about his famous group, and is the first book ever written by a member of the group.
Queen in 3-D took May three years to complete and, according to a post on his official website, it includes a bevy of rare photos of the band “[o]ff stage, on stage — on tour, off tour — in the studio, in the snow, in the sunshine, in the rain — in the pink and in the blue.” The book will come packaged with a specially designed stereoscopic viewer that will make the images seem to jump off the page.
In the text, May will share previously untold stories about himself, late singer Freddie Mercury and his other band mates, and discuss his impressions of many of the countries Queen has visited on tour.
“The whole process of writing this new kind of book was almost subconscious — as I looked at the 3D photos, memories were evoked and the stories poured out,” Brian said in a recent interview with The Bookseller. “It’s the 3D element that makes it extra evocative. I’m hoping each image will draw readers in deeper, like me, inviting them to immerse themselves in a scene, to share an unseen Queen moment.”
May is planning to take part in a number of book-signing events around the time of Queen in 3-D‘s publication, including appearances at the Hay Literary Festival and the Waterstones Piccadilly store in London.
