David Anthony Shook, who is currently an inmate in the Arkansas Department of Correction, had an additional eight years added to his sentence during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday after pleading guilty to entering a number of vehicles and stealing items including cell phones, credit cards and cash.

The thefts for which the 37-year-old Shook is charged stretch back to July of last year when about twenty vehicles were broken into at 14 different locations in the Gassville area. At the time of the thefts, police estimated the value of stolen property to have been about $4,400.

According to police reports, credit cards were taken from three of the vehicles and surveillance video obtained by officers is alleged to have shown David Shook and 34-year-old Michelle Shook, who was identified at various times as Shook’s wife or estranged wife, using the cards at a filling station in Flippin and at a grocery store on the west side of Mountain Home.

At one time, David and Michelle Shook were both on the most wanted list in this county.

Investigators interviewed one of the victims living on Vine Street in Gassville and she said she was awakened by barking dogs in the early morning hours of July 19th last year, went outside and found a female inside the driver’s side of her vehicle. The woman bolted from the car and ran when she spotted the home owner. The victim attempted to pursue the woman but was unable to catch her because he had come out of the house without shoes. She said she heard the woman call out to a person named “David” during the chase. The victim then saw a white vehicle — described as one known to be owned or driven by Michelle Shook — leave the area.

Investigators said they were told by relatives of David and Michelle Shook that the couple were reportedly holed up at one point in a Branson motel intending to enjoy their summer before their expected return to prison.

Michelle Shook was sentenced to eight years in prison in Baxter County Circuit Court on August 25th for her part in the crimes. She is currently in the Baxter County jail waiting for bed space to open in the state prison system. David Shook is shown to be an inmate in the Delta Regional Unit of the state prison system at Dermott on an earlier conviction.

Restitution for David and Michelle Shook was set at $2,200 each.
