The Fraternal Order of Police and the Junior Auxiliary have teamed up to give local children the opportunity to shop for Christmas. Shop with a Cop began small nearly eight years ago, but this year projects to help 163 local kids.
A list is created by teaming up with local school resource officers and school counselors to determine which students are in need of assistance. Each student is contacted and a time is set for them to shop with a police officer. Each child is given a $150 Walmart gift card to use on the shopping day and the Junior Auxiliary is on site to offer gift wrapping, as well as making sure each child receives a basket of food.
In a recent episode of KTLO’s Talk of the Town featuring President of Fraternal Order of Police Officer James Tilley and Junior Auxiliary co-chair Ashley Thompson, Officer Tilley commented on how much growth the program has seen.
