Wonder’s “Faith,” which was co-written with OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder for the animated film Sing, is among the eligible songs. The tune recently received a Golden Globe Award nomination in the Best Original Song — Motion Picture category.

Other potential Oscar nominees include Gabriel’s “The Veil,” from Snowden, and Sting’s “The Empty Chair,” from Jim: The James Foley Story.
In order to be eligible, songs have to include original words and music specifically written for the movie, and a “clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody” has to be used either during the film, or as the first song you hear over the end credits.
The nominations for the 89th Oscars will be announced January 24. The awards themselves, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air February 26 on ABC.
