A structure fire Sunday evening at 2252 County Road 99 is suspicious, says Baxter County Criminal Investigator Sergeant Brad Hurst, and is being investigated as an arson. The Clarkridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene where an unoccupied single-wide trailer was on fire. When they arrived they noticed the front door of the building had been kicked in.
According to a family member of the owners, who lived next door, before he saw smoke he heard a vehicle with loud exhaust take off from the direction of the residence.
The trailer was being used as storage and no electricity had been connected in the last six years.
Evidence was collected at the scene by a Mountain Home Fire Department investigator who says it appears the fire may have been started near a couch which was stored in the building.
