©Apple Corps Ltd.The Beatles‘ new archival concert album, Live at the Hollywood Bowl, has debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200, making it the legendary band’s 32nd record to reach the chart’s top 10. The record, which features performances from the Fab Four’s three historic shows at the famous Los Angeles venue in 1964 and ’65, notched a total of 36,000 equivalent album units, 35,000 of which were pure album sales.
Live at the Hollywood Bowl features remastered versions of 13 performances that previously appeared on the long-out-of-print, George Martin-produced 1977 album The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl, plus four previously unreleased tracks. All of the songs on the new record were remixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by the late Martin’s son, Giles, along with Grammy-winning engineer Sam Okell.
The new album is a companion to the Ron Howard-directed documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years, which premiered last week in theaters and on Hulu. The Beatles last reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in 2013 with another archival collection, On Air: Live at the BBC Volume 2, which peaked at #7.
Only three artists have scored more top-10 albums on the Billboard tally — The Rolling Stones with 36, Barbra Streisand with 34, and Frank Sinatra, with 33.
