The Pretenders Make a “Holy Commotion” with New Video

Credit: Jill FurmanovskyThe Pretenders have unveiled an official video for “Holy Commotion,” a new song that will be featured on the band’s forthcoming album, Alone. The partly animated clip stars frontwoman Chrissie Hynde and The Black KeysDan Auerbach, who produced and played multiple instruments on the album.

The video, which can be viewed at The Pretenders’ official YouTube channel, was directed and animated by Luca Monterosso Whittmann. It features footage of Hynde and Auerbach at the latter musician’s Nashville studio, along with clips of various instruments and pieces of equipment at the facility, enhanced by a variety of cartoon doodles and lyrical snippets of the song.

Musically, “Holy Commotion” combines a soulful ’60s girl-group sound with some ’80s synth-pop elements.

Alone initially was intended to be the follow-up to Hynde’s 2014 solo debut, Stockholm, but she decided while working on the project that the songs should be released under the Pretenders moniker. The band’s last studio effort, Break Up the Concrete, came out in 2008.

As previously reported, The Pretenders will be supporting Stevie Nicks on the Fleetwood Mac singer’s fall North American solo tour, which kicks off October 25 in Phoenix. The band also has announced a series of headlining dates that will take place on off nights during the Nicks trek. Tickets for the headlining gigs will go on sale to the public this Friday, September 30. Pre-sale tickets will be available starting Wednesday, September 28 at 10 a.m. local time via ThePretenders.com.
